An exquisite Antique late Victorian Sterling Silver locket made Circa 1880. The wonderful piece features fabulous engraved palm trees on the front and a floral display of flowers layered in 18ct Yellow and Rose Gold in the centre.
The locket contains its original rims and windows within and currently houses an extraordinary hand-coloured photograph of a finely dressed gentleman. The initials M.R. have been engraved in an extravagant fashion on the back of the locket, belonging to a previous owner of the piece, maybe even the gentleman in the photo.
Hand-coloured photographs became popular during the Victorian era and were often hand-coloured with paints, oils and water colours to enhance black and white photographs to make them more vivid and life-like.
A fascinating Antique find and beautifully preserved. It would make a wonderful gift for a loved one.
